Why we're drinking this
Spanish wines are generally good value and quality. Torres is a solid large-scale producer, turning out a lot of nice wine at good prices. This one is made from Tempranillo—a grape that’s fun to say because you get to say “yo” at the end and pretend you’ve been to Spain. It’s a rather unsung grape, but you’ve likely tasted it in the wines of Rioja. This wine is like a baby Rioja, without the massive oak and spice. So it’s nice for a warmer day when you feel like a substantial wine but don’t want the heft of a big oak barrel.
Tasting note
Mostly red berries, with a touch of black berry too, and some ripe plum. Nice structure, in that the fresh berries are backed with some light wood notes and a little black spice, along with noticeably acidity. This makes for a lively package. There’s decent complexity—all those interesting elements mingling about on your tongue make you want to go back for another sip. The finish lingers a while, too, which will make this wine a nice match with summery grilled things and meats of all description.
