  Tastes like
  Cherry, plum, blackberry and raspberry, with tasty savoury notes and a little sweet spice. Full bodied with sandy tannins. Long finish.
  Pairs with
  Lamb, venison, wild boar, osso buco, veal chop, brisket, beef ribeye, meatloaf, shepherd’s pie… you get the idea. Also grilled mushrooms, eggplant and something nutty.
  Good for
  Splitting fire wood in your best flannel, getting your 50:1 chainsaw mixture just right, ageing that rack of lamb an extra few days in the fridge before letting loose the charcoal.

  Why we're drinking this
  There are many ways to enjoy Cabernet Franc. We consider it the most versatile and enjoyable, quite frankly, of the Cabernet family. And the grape sure loves us here in Ontario. Our soils and climate suit this grape to a T. And though it’s most famous as the grape of France’s Loire Valley, Ontario’s Cab Franc star is surely rising. If we can peg an Ontario style — which is hard given the diversity of regional terroirs, as well as winemaker personality — we’d say it’s fruity and bright with juicy acidity and hints of savoury or herbal notes. Our favourite styles are on the medium-weight side, without too much oak, and therefore very food friendly. And speaking of favourites, let’s talk about this Creekside wine right here…

  Tasting note
  Creekside is rather fanatical about Cabernet Franc. And they are fanatical about their vineyards. This wine comes from the Serluca vineyard, one of Creekside’s prized possessions, near the town of Virgil. There’s cherries galore here, on the nose and palate. Also blackberry, raspberry, sweet-exotic spice and tobacco. There’s wonderful balance between bright fruit and a savoury-herbal quality (think deep woods!) This wine wants something meaty. Don’t disappoint it!
