Why we're drinking thisGood music, good wine — it just makes sense. This is not your average celebrity-endorsed wine. Jim Cuddy has a long-time relationship with Tawse. For the past six years, Jim has headlined the Summer Solstice Concert at Tawse Winery, and this relationship has blossomed into an exciting wine project. You could say both are icons in their respective fields. Jim has an appreciation for wines from all over the world. Tawse is resolutely and proudly Ontario-based yet has a very European sensibility in terms of tradition and style. The wines are elegant, restrained yet powerful — kind of reminds you of a Blue Rodeo concert, no? We’ll never mind all that because the wine stands on its own as another glorious example of the refined approach that Tawse exemplifies. There’s also something distinctly “outdoorsy” about it — the wood smoke, the pine scent, the dark chocolaty fruit. This wine seems to want to be out in the woods, near a fire, with an acoustic guitar nearby.
Tasting noteElegant and inviting, this is a modern Bordeaux style with immediate appeal. Blackberry, currant and tangy black cherry notes give way to delicate balsam-cedar, as a smoky campfire wafts up in the background. How Canadian is that? Sweet vanilla spice, clove and blueberry crumble come through on the finish. A dry, well-structured wine with considerable charm and complexity.
