  Tastes like
  Black berries, blueberry, raspberry and mocha/vanilla. Warming sweet spice and a touch of oak toast. Well structured with forthright but ripening tannins. A poised and age worthy wine.
  Good for
  A full-on outdoor barbecue with something spit-roasted, something gamey, or something just a little bit wild. If you have to wait till spring, that’s ok, the wine will just get better.
  Pairs with
  Earth-toned foods, with mushrooms and herbs: osso buco, lamb shank, prime rib, game, southern BBQ, hard cheeses. Try a meat-lovers pizza too. (No need to be fancy!)

  Why we're drinking this
  Creekside has the lovely warm vineyards that bring the fussy Cabernet Sauvignon grapes to full ripeness. They’ve also got some of the finest Syrah grapes in Niagara. (OK, Shiraz to you Aussie fans.) Shiraz does very nicely in Niagara and Creekside has been nurturing it for quite some time. Their Undercurrent series of wines are made in small batches with lots of love. And you can taste the concentration, the authenticity of the grapes. This is a big talking wine—it’ll have plenty to say at your dinner table. And that’s exactly where you want to serve it, with a hefty shank of some lovely animal and all the herbs and savoury-ness that Mother Nature can provide. We’re pretty sure Mother Nature will love this wine.

  Tasting note
  Fruity and spicy, this is a wine just reaching its peak. Lots of black berry fruit and earthy spice, plus some sweet spice and toast. For a big bruiser of a wine, it has a soft floral side too—you’ll find it in the nose. Just keep on sniffing! It’s medium to full in weight, with ripening tannins and a long, grippy finish. If you love wines that have that youthful nerve, but also the mature notes of dried fruit, nuts and savoury suppleness, well here it is. And over the next few years those flavours and textures will integrate even more. So grab a few bottles and enjoy the ride—open one every six months or so to see how the wine is evolving.
